“David the king said to all the assembly, “Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for Yahweh God.”
What does 1 Chronicles 29:1 mean?
David is preparing the people to support Solomon's future reign and, more immediately, to help build the Temple. He's acknowledging what might seem like a weakness (Solomon is young and inexperienced) while reframing the real challenge: this project isn't about creating a nice building for people to use, but constructing a sacred space where God will dwell. By saying the work is "great" and the palace belongs to God rather than to man, David elevates the entire endeavor beyond normal construction, asking the community to think of themselves as partners in something holy.
