What does 1 Chronicles 25:17 mean?

This verse is part of a detailed list of how King David organized the Levites—the priests and temple workers—into twenty-four groups who would take turns leading worship and music at the temple. Shimei was assigned the tenth rotation, and like each group leader mentioned in this section, he had twelve family members (sons and brothers) serving under his direction. It's easy to skip over these genealogical lists, but they mattered deeply to the original community. They showed that worship wasn't handled by just a few people, but was shared across many families and required organization and intentionality. If you're in a season where your own contributions feel small or overlooked, there's something encouraging here: God noticed and recorded these details because every person had a role in honoring him.
