What does 1 Chronicles 22:2 mean?

King David is preparing materials and workers for a massive building project, the temple that will honor God. He recognizes that this work requires both the skilled labor of foreigners living in Israel and the finest materials available. What's touching here is that David himself won't build the temple (God has told him he's been a warrior with too much blood on his hands), but he's still throwing himself into preparation with generosity and care. He's using whatever resources and people are available to him to create something beautiful for God, even though he won't see it completed. It's a picture of faithful service that goes beyond what we'll personally experience or receive credit for.
