What does 1 Chronicles 17:4 mean?

David had spent years planning to build a magnificent temple for God, and this message must have come as a disappointment. But God's refusal wasn't about rejecting David's devotion, it was about David's calling. David had spent his life as a warrior and king, and God had other plans for this sacred project, ultimately giving the task to David's son Solomon. What matters most here is that God valued David's heart and desire to honor him, even while redirecting his energy elsewhere. Sometimes the deepest acts of worship aren't found in the grand projects we imagine, but in accepting what God is actually calling us to do. For David, his true legacy would be spiritual rather than architectural, passing on a heart for God to the next generation.
