What does 1 Chronicles 17:2 mean?

Nathan speaks these words to King David after David has expressed a desire to build a temple for God. The prophet initially encourages David to pursue his plan because he senses David's genuine devotion and believes God supports the vision. What's touching here is that Nathan is responding to David's sincere longing to honor God, not dismissing it out of hand. Yet this moment becomes a turning point, because God later corrects Nathan and reveals a different plan, showing us that even our best intentions sometimes need reshaping by God's wisdom. The verse reminds us that God's presence with us doesn't automatically mean every desire we act on will be God's ultimate will, but it does mean He walks with us through the discovery of it.
