1 Chronicles 14:11

β€œSo they came up to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there. David said, God has broken my enemies by my hand, like waters breaking out. Therefore they called the name of that place Baal Perazim.”

What does 1 Chronicles 14:11 mean?

When David's enemies attacked him in this valley, he prayed and trusted God for help, then won a decisive victory. Afterward, David gave credit to God rather than taking it for himself, saying God had broken through his enemies like a sudden flood of water bursting through a barrier. The place got its name, Baal Perazim (which means "Lord of Breakings Through"), as a permanent reminder of how God had acted on David's behalf. It's a beautiful picture of what it looks like to fight hard while staying humble enough to recognize that real strength comes from God's hand, not our own.
