1 Chronicles 1:33
βThe sons of Midian: Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the sons of Keturah.β
What does 1 Chronicles 1:33 mean?
This verse completes a genealogy of Abraham's descendants through Keturah, his wife after Sarah's death. Midian, one of Abraham's sons, had five sons of his own, and this line of descendants became established peoples in the ancient Near East. The Midianites would later play significant roles throughout Israel's history, sometimes as allies and sometimes as adversaries. These genealogies matter not because we need to memorize names, but because they remind us that God's promises extended far beyond Isaac and Jacob, touching many peoples and nations.
